John Mayer Targeted In Multi-Million Ponzi Scheme Lawsuit!

Wait, WHAT?!

How on EARTH does he factor into all of this?

Apparently, John Mayer could be in some serious trouble, as he’s somehow been brought into a massive lawsuit over a $100 million Ponzi scheme in Seattle…and he could be holding almost $500,000 of dirty money!

Earlier this year, Darren Berg was sentenced to 18 years in prison for screwing investors out of serious money through his company.

Trustees have now been given the responsibility of attempting to recover all of the missing millions, and in the process, have reportedly uncovered that the SINGER is one of the individuals who received funds from the scheme when a booking agency, Grabow & Associates, was paid by the company!

And although there’s no clear answer as to how he works into this mess, he and the agency may have close to $465,000 of the missing millions!

Mayer’s lawyer asserts:

“John Mayer performed at a corporate event in 2008 and was paid for his services. The opportunity was brought to John through his talent agency, CAA.”

Ah…and slowly it all seems to fall into place!

That stinks, though! Especially because he seems to only be LOOSELY associated by extension!

Here’s hoping that that’s his only involvement in all of this craziness, and that the money can be returned to its proper owners!

YEESH!

The New Orleans Saints have announced that they’ve acquired linebacker Barrett Ruud in a trade from the Seattle Seahawks.

“New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Monday that the club has acquired veteran linebacker Barrett Ruud from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a future undisclosed draft pick,” the Saints announced on their website.

Report: Terrell Owens not guaranteed a roster spot

AP

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, wide receiver Terrell Owens hasn’t been  guaranteed a spot on the Seahawks’ finals 53-man roster.

“The other former superstar trying to rekindle the past, Seahawks receiver Terrell Owens, had considerably less success. He’s hardly assured of making this roster, according to team sources, and while quarterback Matt Flynn targeted him a team-high five times in the half the starters played, Owens didn’t have a catch. A few times he seemed to have communication issues, Champ Bailey broke up one pass adroitly and Owens flat out dropped a beauty bomb by Flynn in the end zone,” wrote La Canfora.

Owens has always had problems holding onto the ball, it certainly won’t help him earn a roster spot at the age of 38.

Report: Seahawks to ramp up efforts to trade Tarvaris Jackson

AP

According to Will Brinson of CBSSports.com, the Seattle Seaahawks are ready to intensify their efforts to trade quarterback Tarvaris Jackson now that they’re ready to move on with Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson.

“Tarvaris Jackson again did not play in Seattle’s preseason game against the Broncos on Friday, and the Seahawks have told him they intend to move him. With Matt Flynn the starter and rookie Russell Wilson impressive again, the team is comfortable moving forward with them.

“Some have pointed to Jackson’s salary being an issue, with him set to earn $4 million this season, but he would be would be willing to alter that some to facilitate a trade to a better situation, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Seahawks would not seek compensation beyond a fifth-round pick (possibly that moves to a fourth based on performance), and may have to settle for less.

“It’s unlikely they would hold him back from having an opportunity to advance his career elsewhere, regardless, and if no trades materialize his release is possible. However, several teams need quarterback help, most prominently Arizona, though the Seahawks likely would not seriously entertain the option of trading him within their division),” wrote Brinson.

There are plenty of teams that could use a good back up or solid starter like Jackson.

Terrell Owens will make his Seahawks debut this Saturday

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll indicated that wide receiver Terrell Owens will make his debut this Saturday against the Broncos.

“I’m not going to tell you how many plays it will be,”Carroll said, via the Seattle Times. “We’ll see how it goes, but he’s going to play pretty early in the game.”

Carroll believes Owens is ready to get on the field and show everyone what he’s got left.

“He’s ready to go,” Carroll said of Owens. “He had two good weeks of work, and he came in in great shape so he’s ready to go.”

I’m looking forward to seeing how Owens looks on the field at the age of 38.

NHL in Seattle? 4 Reasons This Should Happen Soon

The city of Seattle and the nearby area of Bellevue are two great places for the NHL to consider bringing a team through expansion or relocation.

The Seattle area is a great place for sports fans, and the city has repeatedly shown that they are willing to support their professional sports teams. The Seattle Metropolitans, who played in the city from 1915 to 1924, were the first American team to ever win the Stanley Cup.

Let’s look at four reasons why Seattle should have an NHL soon.

Russell Wilson believes he’s closer to becoming the Seahawks starting quarterback

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson told Ian Furness from KJR in Seattle via SportsRadioInterviesws.com that he believes he’s moved closer to becoming the starting quarterback.

“I definitely believe I’ve moved closer,” Wilson said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “You take one step at a time, one day at a time, one rep at a time and you just improve. You respect the process and that’s the biggest thing is just respecting the process and taking one day at a time and just learning as much as I can. I’m on a constant quest for knowledge and just trying to gain as much knowledge as I can so when I do get that opportunity I just keep growing. I know there’s going to be ups and downs, it’s a process like I said, and always in a process there’s ups and downs but as long as I keep moving forward, that’s the key.”

Wilson was very impressive in his NFL debut last week. I would love to see what he can do against an opposing team’s starters.

Report: Seahawks talking to two teams about trading Tarvaris Jackson

AP Photo

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the Seattle Seahawks are currently talking to two teams about trading quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

“A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the Seahawks are talking to a couple of teams about trading Jackson, and that a deal could happen.  But the Seahawks prefer to wait for one or more teams to suffer a quarterback injury during the preseason, which would help them get a better deal in return,” reported Florio

Jackson is reportedly unhappy about how the Seahawks’ three-way quarterback competition is going and it looks like he’ll be on his way out soon enough.

Sidney Rice ready for contact

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice has practiced with a red jersey on ever since camp started, in order to alert his teammates that he couldn’t be hit as he continued to recover from offseason shoulder surgery on both of his shoulders.

“Rice practiced the first two weeks wearing a red jersey, denoting no contact. That’s gone this week as Rice is now participating in team drills, and even diving for balls. Rice won’t play in Saturday’s exhibition game at Denver, but his practice regimen is a sign of progress and that he may indeed be ready when the regular season begins,” reported Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times.

“This is his first week back, getting banged around so we’ll give him some time,” coach Pete Carroll said. “See how that goes.”

Hopefully Rice can stay healthy and make an impact along with Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens this season.

Report: Seahawks placing Tarvaris Jackson on the trade block

According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, the Seattle Seahawks are expected to place quarterback Tarvaris Jackson on the trade block, unless one of their quarterbacks gets hurt.

It makes sense for the Seahawks to trade Jackson since it looks like both Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson are capable of getting the job done if they need either player to play this season.  It also doesn’t make sense for the them to keep Jackson as a back up when he’s scheduled to make $4 million this season.

Matt Flynn will get his second straight start

According to John Boyle of the Everett Herald, Matt Flynn will get the start for the Seattle Seahawks for the second straight week.

Pete Carroll said they’ll stick with the same plan this week: Flynn starting, Wilson 2nd half. #Seahawks

Flynn had a pretty solid game last week, but did throw one interception despite a productive day by completeing 11 of 13 passes.

NFL reportedly planning on using replacement officials during the regular season

AP Photos

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the NFL is now planning on using replacement officials during the regular season.

“League executives said Monday they now foresee starting the 2012 regular season with replacement officials,” reported Mortensen.

With the way these officials have been calling games during the preseason, the NFL would be stupid to not strike a deal with the regular officials.

Seahawks violate CBA rules, will likely be fined

AP Photo

According to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times, the Seahawks violated the new CBA by allowing wide receiver Terrell Owens to wear pads on his first day of practice.

“When Terrell Owens took the practice field for the first time on Wednesday, he was wearing shoulder pads.

“And while that might seem like it should be expected given the fact — you know — he was going to play football, it may have been too soon according to the restrictions outlined in the NFL’s collective-bargaining agreement as detailed in a report from Texas,” wrote O’Neil.

NFL league spokesman Greg Aiello responded to O’Neil’s email and laid out the CBA rules.

“Players have a 3-day acclimation period during the preseason. Day 1 is for the physical and meetings. Day 2 and 3 the player may participate, but only in helmet and shells or a padded shirt. Day 4 and for the rest of camp is in full pads,” wrote Aiello.

O’Neil says the Seahawks have admitted to their mistake.

“The Seahawks acknowledge that Owens practiced in shoulder pads a day before he should have, according to the CBA guidelines. It was characterized as an inadvertent violation.

“Owens was signed Monday, participated in a walk-through Tuesday and according to the CBA guidelines governing acclimation, should not have been in full pads until Thursday at the earliest. However, he practiced in shoulder pads.

“No word of a punishment for the violation, if there is any,” wrote O’Neil.

Pete Carroll and Terrell Ownes “punk” the Seahawks

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll likes to have fun with his players.

During team meetings new players are typically punk’d by the team.  But on Wednesday, both Carroll and Terrell Owens flipped the script on everyone.

Longsnapper Clint Gresham even tweeted about it.

Our whole team just got punked soo bad by TO & coach Carroll. Wow that was the most akward moment ever and was so glad it was a joke! #punk

6 Reasons a Team in Seattle Would Be Great for the NHL

The NHL has some problems with current franchises.

Most notable is the ownership—or lack thereof—in Phoenix with the Coyotes (source: Phoenix Business Journal). The sale to potential owner Greg Jamison has been an on-again, off-again affair. While the latest news seems positive for Jamison, there are no guarantees the deal will go through.

The situation in Dallas was shaky until Mark Gaglardi took ownership in April. The Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils (source: TheSportingNews.com) have an array of financial problems.

The city of Atlanta was unable to sustain franchises on two occasions, losing the Flames to Calgary and the Thrashers to Winnipeg, where they were renamed the Jets.

If the NHL relocates a current franchise or decides to expand, Seattle is a city that deserves consideration.

Before that could ever happen, the NHL would need to see finalized plans for a new arena (source: KIRO-TV.com). Once that happens, the NHL could allow a team to play in Key Arena, the same building the NBA abandoned when the Seattle SuperSonics left for Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.

While it is not a building that the NHL would want on a permanent basis, it could be fine on a temporary basis while a new arena is constructed.

Terrell Owens wants to be a part of something in Seattle

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Terrell Owens told the media that he’s not focused on himself this time, he’s more concerned about being apart of a team.

“That’s what it’s all about for me now — being a part of something rather than be the center of something,” Owens said. “I understand a lot of media is here because of me, but again, I’ve changed in a lot of ways. There are a lot things that have occurred the last two years. I had a lot of time to think about things, get things in perspective.”

It sounds like Owens has finally gotten it.  He seems like he understands that this is his final chance to get a Super Bowl ring.  Even if he keeps a low profile and has a nice productive season, he might be able to sign somewhere else next season and prolong his career even more.

Sidney Rice says he’ll be ready for the season opener

AP Photo

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice told Dave “Softy” Mahler of KJR radio in Seattle (via ProFootballTalk.com) that he’ll be ready for the season opener.

“I’m playing in the Cardinal game,” Rice said.  “My plan is to be out there September 9 versus the Cardinals in Arizona.”

Even if Rice is able to play week one, the big question is whether he’ll be able to last for the entire season.
