Travis Henry wants to be like Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress

He’s been reinstated, and announced that he wants to come back to the NFL. But apparently, Travis Henry’s phone isn’t ringing. The former Bills, Titans and Broncos running back said he’s still holding out hope, and looking to the examples of Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress as evidence he could do the unlikely. “In my [...]

Patriots not expected to sign Plaxico Burress

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via ProFootballTalk.com), after working out free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress on Sunday, the New England Patriots aren’t expected to sign him.

It’s not a good sign when the Patriots turn down an aging veteran.  This could be a sign that Burress future in the NFL is in doubt at this point.

Burress would be a nice addition along with both Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker.

Jerry Jones says no Plax discussions for Cowboys

If the Cowboys have made a list of receivers to contact in case of injury that features Plaxico Burress, it’s news to Jerry Jones. The Cowboys owner told Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com that the team hasn’t been talking about adding Burress, which contradicts a report from Steve Wyche of NFL.com that the team has had [...]

Plaxico vows to be dominant again

The pool of out-of-work-veteran-receivers-with-impressive-careers is down to, well, one. Plaxico Burress still doesn’t have a job.  And he recently told KILT in Houston that, once he gets one, he’ll be even better than he was in 2011, when he scored eight touchdowns for the Jets. “[F]or me to go out and do some of the…

Plaxico high on Cowboys’ list, if there’s an injury

The last of the unemployed, over-the-hill, objects-in-rear-view-mirror-are-farther-away-than-they-appear receivers could be moving closer to getting a job. Steve Wyche of NFL Network reported Thursday that the Cowboys have had “preliminary discussions” with agent Drew Rosenhaus regarding receiver Plaxico Burress.  Wyche characterizes the talks as “exploratory,” with no signing imminent. A source with knowledge of the situation…

Report: Cowboys talking to Plaxico Burress’ agent

According to Steve Wyche of the NFL Network, the Dallas Cowboys have had preliminary discussions with free agent Plaxico Burress’ agent.

“The Dallas Cowboys have had preliminary discussions with agent Drew Rosenhaus regarding free-agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress, a source with knowledge of the situation said Thursday.

“The conversations are said to have been exploratory, and no signing is imminent, according to the source,” reported Wyche.

Burress makes a lot of sense, the Cowboys don’t have any legitimate depth behind both Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Plaxico Burress Reportedly Would Play for Veteran Minimum

Plaxico Burress is a man without a team. After playing for the Jets last season Burress has been unable to latch on with anyone.

His name has been mentioned with the Steelers since Mike Wallace is holding out. But sources say the Steelers are not interested.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Burress does not “want to much money,’’ as one person on the Steelers said last week, but merely the veteran minimum – which includes a possible salary cap benefit to a team.

Burress could be signed to a one-year, $925,000 contract, the minimum for a veteran of his stature, and include him under the “minimum veteran benefit” exclusion where he would count only $540,000 under their cap. If they tossed in, say, a $65,000 bonus, he would then earn $990,000 but count $605,000.

No team in the NFL right now believes he is because he’s unsigned. But as injuries take hold at the wide receiver position, Burress will likely be signed by someone.

Report: Plaxico Burress willing to take the veteran minimum

There were reports that free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress is still on the market because he’s asking for too much money, now it looks like he’s willing to lower his demands and accept almost anything.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Burress is now willing to accept a one-year veteran minimum deal in order to play this season.  So far the Steelers haven’t shown any interest in signing Burress.

Now that Burress has lowered his demands, I’d expect him to be on an NFL roster in time for the regular season.

Report: Plax willing to take veteran minimum

With the Mike Wallace impasse dragging on, talk of a Plaxico Burress return to the Steelers bubbled up this week. General Manager Kevin Colbert said that Pittsburgh wasn’t looking for a veteran receiver at this point, but stopped short of ruling it out later in training camp. That was one stumbling block to a Plax [...]

Colbert says time hasn’t come for a veteran receiver, yet

Amid speculation from Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that a Plaxico Burress reunion could be coming with the Steelers, G.M. Kevin Colbert said that the time hasn’t come to add a veteran receiver in response to the ongoing holdout of Mike Wallace. Colbert declined to specifically address Burress, who visited with the Steelers last [...]

Should the Steelers Consider Bringing Back WR Plaxico Burress?

Mike Bires at the Beaver County Times has an interesting take today about an ongoing thought that the Steelers should bring back former first-round pick Plaxico Burress.

I just can’t see the Steelers signing him. He turned down a chance to return to Pittsburgh last year but signed with the Jets because they offered more money ($3 million for the 2011 season).

Burress did catch 45 passes for 612 yards and eight TDs last year. But that wasn’t enough for the Jets to bring him back.

Burress, who turns 35 on Sunday, will play for someone this year. But the Steelers don’t need the baggage he’ll bring along. His list of legal troubles over the years is nearly as lengthy as his football resume. The Steelers’ don’t need him in their locker room.

Last season when Burress was a free agent there was a lot of chatter that the Steelers should bring back Plaxico, who left the Steelers after the 2004 season.

I think there’s still no doubt that Mike Wallace will be back, and with that, I can’t see there being much of a role for Burress on the Steelers unless there’s a major injury. He probably isn’t worth the headaches or trouble if the Steelers look into trying to bring him back.
