According to Tom Rock of Newsday, Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw was practicing on Monday despite a cyst that burst on his hand during Saturday night’s preseason win over the Jets.

Ahmad Bradshaw practicing today, cyst be damned!

Looks like Bradshaw should be fine going forward.

Hakeem Nicks officially back at practice for the Giants

AP

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has officially returned to practice after suffering a fractured foot this offseason.

“I might have some fresh legs. That’s the good thing about it,” said Nicks, per the Newark Star-Ledger. “But I’m just excited to be back out there practicing with the team. I can’t wait to start going for real.”

“Yep, big day. Get out there, practice, excited about that,” Nicks said. “I did a little bit of stuff last week, individual, that’s all they would let me do. So just today, I’ll get to do the reps with the team period, stuff like that.”

“I’ve been running routes now for about two weeks,” Nicks said. “I ran every route in the route book and haven’t had a problem. I just have to go out there and take care of the things I need to take care of and stay on top of it.”

It looks like as long as their aren’t any set backs, Nicks should be ready to go for the season opener.

PHOTO: Corey Webster tweeted a photo of Rueben Randle taped up in a cold tub

Last Monday, New York Giants cornerback Corey Webster tweeted a photo of rookie wide receiver Rueben Randle taped up in a cold tub.

Sorry @ruebenrandle!! @lsu Love… lockerz.com/s/234352892

I got a feeling after this picture of Randle and the recent video of Prince Amukamara getting thrown into a cold tub, the Giants will be instituting some restrictions on the use of their cold tubs.

Giants claim Jayron Hosley has turf toe

AP

New York Giants rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley’s foot was in a boot after Saturday night’s preseason win over the Jets.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he’s not sure how Hosley suffered the injury, but he does know he suffered a turf toe injury.

“Coughlin also said he’s in the dark, but he does know that Hosley is dealing with ‘a turf toe kind of issue,’” wrote Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger.

“Hopefully nothing will turn up in terms of all the tests, and then it’s going to be something that is going to be very sore, there’s no doubt,” Coughlin said in a conference call with reporters today. “How he is able to deal with it will indicate how fast he can get back on the practice field.”

Steve Weatherford apolgizes for filming Prince Amukamara hazing

AP

New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford issued an apology on Twitter for filming cornerback Prince Amukamara getting tossed into a cold tub by defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

I want to apologize to the fans… The video I posted was distasteful. Our team is a family, and we love each other. I am sorry to the fans

— Steve Weatherford (@Weatherford5) August 19, 2012

I’m sure Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and requested that Weatherford issue some type of apology for his part in the ordeal.

Ahmad Bradshaw’s hand should be just fine

AP

According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger,  Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw’s injured hand should be just fine.

“There’s no break and Bradshaw said he merely suffered a popped cyst on the top of his hand when he hit it on a player’s helmet,” reported Garafolo.

“I’ve had it for a while,” Bradshaw said after the game. “We didn’t know what to do with it. It WAS still there and then on one of the runs I hit it on someone’s helmet and it just popped.

“There was a little pain in it. It feels good. We’re just being cautious about it.”

Giants defensive tackle: Tim Tebow was very frustrated with the Jets offensive line

AP

According to New York Giants defensive tackle Carlton Powell, Jets quarterback Tim Tebow looked very frustrated with his offensive line for their horrific play in Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Giants.

“Obviously, we were getting after him a little bit,” said Powell, via The Star-Ledger. “And I guess they weren’t holding up their protection so some mistakes were being made so I saw him getting mad so I said a little something to him. He kind of looked at me like he wanted to say something, but he didn’t really say nothing though.”

“The frustration was written all over him,” said Powell. “He was already upset so it didn’t take that much.”

Tom Coughlin not happy about Jason Pierre-Paul, Prince Amukamara cold tub video

AP

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin expressed his displeasure with the viral video of Jason Pierre-Paul throwing Prince Amukamara into a cold tub.

“I’m going to look into it. I’m going to talk to the parties involved,” Coughlin said, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “As I’m understanding it, there were some parts of it that were inappropriate. In no way is anything that occurs within this family or group, should that be a part of any kind of social media. So I’m going to address that thoroughly. I’ve spent a little time on that this preseason. So I’ll look into it further.”

At the most Coughlin will likely fine Weatherford for taking the video and posting it online and fine Pierre-Paul for throwing Prince in the cold tub.

Ahmad Bradshaw leaves game with hand injury

AP

New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw left tonight’s preseason game against the Jets with a hand injury.  He ended up getting x-rays in the locker room, which turned out to be negative.

The Giants say the X-Rays on Ahmad Bradshaw’s hand were negative. He’s got it wrapped though now, with ice. #NYG

D.J. Ware came in and did a nice job in Bradshaw’s absence.

Jason Pierre-Paul tosses Prince Amukamara into a cold tub

New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford took a video of defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul carrying cornerback Prince Amukamara to the cold tub and tossing him in.  The video is on Vumee so it looks like we aren’t able to embed it.  Check it out here.

I wonder what caused JPP to toss the Prince in the cold tub.  And I wonder what Giants head coach Tom Coughlin thinks of this.

Justin Tuck says he wasn’t close to retiring last season

AP Photo

Even though New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck told the New York Post that he thought about retiring last season, he indicated on Wednesday that he never came close to following through.

“No, not at all,” Tuck said.

Tuck says his retirement comments got blown out of proportion.

“Honestly, you know how things go. You say ‘retirement’ and it gets blown out of proportion,” Tuck said. “Did it pop in my head? Sure it did. Did I seriously consider it or seriously think that I was going to retire last year? I don’t think so. But you know, last year was tough for me. I contemplated it a little bit, but as far as I’m concerned, all that retirement talk is kind of out the window now. I’m focused on having a great year this year and helping my team get back to the top of the mountain.”

Justin Tuck thought about retiring last season

AP Photo

Giants defensive end Justin Tuck told the New York Post that he thought about retiring last season.

“The Giants defensive captain revealed to The Post exclusively Tuesday that at the depth of his mental/emotional despair, at a time when donning his No. 91 with only one good shoulder at his disposal wracked him with a sense of guilt he wasn’t helping his Giants, he contemplated retirement,” the Post reported.

“After the hardships of last year, I did some soul-searching, and really had to ask myself if this is what I want,” Tuck said. “Obviously, I’m back, and I just feel kind of refreshed mentally. I think a lot of things were weighing on me last year where I couldn’t necessarily be my normal self on and off the football field. I’ve kind of put those things in the past now and moved forward.”

Tuck explained what was specifically bothering him.

“A lot of things. Injuries, and family issues [he lost his grandfather in August and his uncle in September] … things of that nature,” he said.

Tuck was asked if he really thought about walking away.

“Sure. Definitely did. I contemplated it,” the defensive end said. “But, I think that was just me feeling sorry for myself for a little bit there.”

AP Photo

Tuck explained what kept him from calling it quits.

“Honestly, just consulted a lot of my family and closest friends, and just realizing this is what I love to do, and I’m not ready to give it up regardless of the hardships,” Tuck said. “I think for a little while, like I said, I felt sorry for myself because of the fact that I’m sitting here saying like, ‘Why is all this happening to me?’ I don’t think I was thinking clearly. After winning the Super Bowl, getting away from football for a while allowed me just to think clearly.”

Tuck’s teammates knew his body was hurting.

“I couldn’t lift it before a lot of games,” Tuck said. “It gets tiring after a while.”

Giants players blaming training camp beds for back problems

Many players on the New York Giants have been complaining of back problems during training camp and are blaming the beds that they’ve been sleeping on.

Players like defensive tackle Linval Joseph and offensive lineman Will Beatty have been struggling with back ailments in camp so far.

Joseph says the beds are too hard to sleep in.

“Everybody’s been complaining about their backs because the bed in the dorm is kind of hard,” Joseph said on Tuesday, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily news.. “My back hurts too, but I think it’s just the bed.”

Rookie cornerback Jayron Hosely, offensive lineman James Brewer,  linebacker Spencer Paysinger and tight end Martellus all gave their opinions on the beds.

“It’s like one of those Sleep Number beds,” said Hosley. “It’s just not comfortable. It’s just like you’re back in college again.”

Is it a surprise that players have problems with dorm beds? Asking 250-350lb players to sleep on twin beds? Lol common sense

— Spencer Paysinger (@SpittyP) August 14, 2012

“Those beds are not the best,” Brewer said. “I’m not going to knock Albany because hey, it could always be worse, but I definitely do miss my own bed. … I have like a little kid’s cot (in the dorm), like I’m in college all over again.” “I mean, we’re big humans,” said Bennett. “Every bed is small. You can’t put a damn dinosaur in a twin-sized bed, you know? Unless you’ve got a California king the bed’s going to be small to these guys. If you’re a normal sized human jumping into a normal sized bed, it fits perfectly. Large, big human jumps into a regular-sized bed, the bed’s too small.” Vacchiano later tweeted that the beds the players are complaining about were bought by the Giants and aren’t from the University of Albany.

BedGate update: It turns out the players are sleeping on mattresses purchased by the team — not UAlbany beds. #NYG

Tom Coughlin doesn’t mind Martellus Bennett’s personality

AP Photo

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told the media that he doesn’t mind tight end Martellus Bennett’s wild personality.

“I like them to have their own personality,” Coughlin said, via Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. “I just like them to be able to structure it within the concept of trying to keep the focus on the game and on the field and on the team.

“I don’t like robots. I like to kid around with them once in a while, too, but I like it when it’s acceptable and when it isn’t acceptable.”

I don’t mind players like Bennett, as long as they do their job and don’t get into trouble off the field.

NFL reportedly planning on using replacement officials during the regular season

AP Photos

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the NFL is now planning on using replacement officials during the regular season.

“League executives said Monday they now foresee starting the 2012 regular season with replacement officials,” reported Mortensen.

With the way these officials have been calling games during the preseason, the NFL would be stupid to not strike a deal with the regular officials.

Justin Tuck believes the Packers and 49ers are sore losers

AP Photo

With both 49ers safety Donte Whitner and Packers linebacker Clay Matthews Jr. speaking out and saying that they should’ve beaten the Giants when they played them in the playoffs last season, Giants defensive end Justin Tuck believes both teams are full of sore losers.

“Man, there’s some sore losers in the world. I mean I don’t care (what they say),” said Tuck, per Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News.  “It doesn’t bother me much. Last time I checked we won the Super Bowl and that’s what everybody strives to get to every year. I’m not the type of guy to make excuses about a loss or a win. Regardless. The better team won. You played better that day, that’s why it’s a game. That’s why we have the slogan: Talk is cheap, play the game. It don’t really matter what we say, it’s about what we do on the football field.”

I agree with Tuck, it just sounds like there are some people out there that are still bitter over losing to the Giants in the playoffs.  It’s time for some people to give the Giants the credit they deserve and then attempt to dethrone them this season.

Victor Cruz discusses a “mind boggling” call the replacement officials made

AP Photo

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said he was surprised to see all of the mistakes the replacement officials made during their game against the Jaguars on Friday night.

One error that Cruz pointed out was when rookie cornerback Jayron Hosely was returning a punt and was called for holding.

“That was probably the most mind-boggling one to me,” Cruz said Sunday, per the New York Times. “I’m a little concerned because we want to make sure we’re getting the best referees we can. I actually overheard one of the refs saying he only refereed glorified high school games, which I don’t even know what that means.”

The NFL has really a big problem with the their officials being locked out and the replacements making a some of the worst calls, or non-calls, that I’ve ever seen.

Terrell Thomas likely sidelined 3-8 weeks with aggravated ACL

AP Photo

According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger,  New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas told him that he could be out for up to eight weeks as he gets back to rehabbing his knee after aggravating his surgically repaired ACL.

“Thomas can do just that with a successful rehab of an injury described the other day by a source as a “stretched” or “aggravated” ACL. Those are the exact two words Thomas used today to describe the issue, and he said the lower-back tightness he experienced on the first day of camp, and tried to practice through, might have caused him to injure his knee.

“The source also said the best case scenario is for Thomas to return to practice in three to five weeks. Thomas gave the same loose estimate on the low end but admitted it could take as long as eight weeks to get back to practice,” wrote Garafolo.

With Thomas’ latest scare, I would think the Giants will make sure he takes his time with his rehab to make sure his knee is ready to go.

Clay Mathews: The Giants didn’t beat us, we beat ourselves

AP Photo

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Mathews Jr. doesn’t believe the New York Giants beat his team in the playoffs last season.  He says they only beat themselves.

“We picked the most inopportune time to play our worst ball,” Matthews told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.  “The fact is, [the Giants] didn’t beat us; we beat ourselves.  We need to play our best ball when it counts.  This year, I expect us to be right back where we should be.”

Packers cornerback Charles Woodson believes that no one thought they would lose that game against the Giants ( I did).

“Regardless of what happened in the first half, nobody thought we would lose that game,” Woodson said.“With what our offense had done that season, I think we had, especially defensively, a false sense of security about what they were gonna do.

“Maybe we should have panicked.  But we didn’t.  We just felt like, ‘Hey, at the end of the day, the offense will put up enough points, we’ll win the game and move on.’  That was probably to our detriment.”

Don’t forget, in the middle of the season when the Giants were riddled with injuries they were one defensive stop away from beating the Packers who were undefeated at the time.

Sounds like Mathews is still bitter about last season’s playoff loss and wanted to take a minute to whine.

Hakeem Nicks could be a week away from practicing

Getty Images

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin stated that Hakeem Nicks needs “probably a good week more off,” before they can even think about allowing him to get on the practice field.

Nicks started to run routes and catch some balls on the side, while the Giants were practicing on Tuesday.  So far he’s still on track for the season opener.
