Browns’ Mohamed Massaquoi says HC Pat Shurmur is old and doesn’t understand Twitter

Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi left last week’s preseason game after reportedly suffering a concussion.  He later went on Twitter and claimed that he was fine and didn’t suffer a concussion.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur wasn’t very happy that he went on Twitter and discussed his injury. Massaquoi explained on Tuesday that Shurmur is too old to understand Twitter.

“Tweeting is a new-age thing,” Massaquoi. “Pat’s a little older, so he doesn’t really understand it. But we’re gonna keep certain things in house as far as Twitter goes. We’re not gonna give any game plans or anything like that or give too many updates which may hinder something that we’re trying to do.

“But Twitter’s fun. Hopefully. I can get Pat to get [an account].”

You have to love it when a player doesn’t show any respect for his coach by calling him old, wow.

Brandon Weeden turns ball over twice in debut

Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden’s first night as an NFL player was a mixed bag. He completed his first pass of the game to Mohamed Massaquoi and hooked up with Travis Benjamin on a nicely thrown deep ball later on the first drive, but two turnovers sullied the night. The first was a fumble forced by [...]

Mohamed Massaquoi could be on the way out in Cleveland

According to Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Moahmed Massaquoi was put on notice by president Mike Holmgren that he has to step up and fullfill his potential this year.

Now with the addition of rookie Josh Gordon, the Browns could decide to cut Massaquoi after a very unimpressive three-year career in Cleveland.

Preseason Power Rankings No. 32: Cleveland Browns

It’s the 10th anniversary of the Browns’ first and only trip to the postseason since the franchise returned in 1999. Hooray? Last year, the Browns were the only members of the AFC North to not make it to the postseason.  While they likely won’t be quite so alone when the dust settles on 2012, they’re [...]

Browns’ Colt McCoy has concussion

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur defended his team’s handling of quarterback Colt McCoy’s head injury in a loss to Pittsburgh.

McCoy sustained a concussion from a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit from Steelers linebacker James Harrison in the fourth quarter Thursday. McCoy was replaced for two plays by backup Seneca Wallace before coming back in and throwing an interception. Shurmur said McCoy didn’t show any symptoms of a concussion until after the game.

Shurmur is confident the Browns’ medical staff followed the NFL’s strict guidelines on head injuries when they assessed McCoy on the sideline. McCoy told Shurmur “he was ready to go” before going back in. Shurmur was adamant that if McCoy had been symptomatic “he would not have gone back in the game — absolutely not.”

Shurmur said McCoy did not show any signs of having a concussion until he was leaving the locker room.

League spokesman Greg Aiello was asked in an email if the Browns followed protocol.

“We will review it with the team,” he responded.

Before McCoy went back into the game, Shurmur said the second-year QB told him “I’m ready to go.”

Shurmur insists the Browns, who have had several players sustain concussions over the past two seasons, abided by the league’s policies on head injuries.

“I feel very confident that if he wasn’t able to play we would have stopped him,” Shurmur said. “I can assure everyone that we followed protocol.”

Browns tight end Benjamin Watson and fullback Owen Marecic both left the game with concussions.

McCoy’s father, Brad, told the Plain Dealer that his son should not have gone back in the game. He said his son felt nauseated and “didn’t even know who he was.”

Shurmur said McCoy did not say he felt sick and passed all the necessary tests to be allowed to return to the game.

“I’m the father of a quarterback,” Shurmur said. “I understand the emotion.”

Shurmur did not criticize Harrison’s hit, and added he had strong feelings but did not want to discuss them publicly. Last season, Harrison knocked Browns wide receivers Mohamed Massaquoi and Joshua Cribbs out of the game with hits to the helmet. Harrison was fined $75,000 for the blow to Massaquoi.

McCoy also suffered a bruised left hand.

Concussion problems for Browns receivers

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns starting wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and tight end Benjamin Watson are not practicing because of concussions.

Both players were hurt in Cleveland’s win on Sunday over Seattle. Coach Pat Shurmur said Massaquoi and Watson, who have a combined 38 receptions, both attended team meetings Tuesday and neither have yet been ruled out of this week’s game in San Francisco.

Also, running back Peyton Hillis will practice after missing Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Shurmur said Hillis is still the team’s feature back.

Linebacker Scott Fujita is back “and full go” after sitting out last week’s game with a concussion.

Shurmur said kicker Phil Dawson, who made two field goals beyond 50 yards last week despite a bruised thigh, and starting right guard Shawn Lauvao (knee) will be limited in practice.

Browns WR Massaquoi practices for first time

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Mohamed Massaquoi finally put on a helmet, pads, and caught passes at Cleveland Browns training camp.

The third-year wide receiver took part in passing drills Sunday. It was his first football-related action since arriving at camp with his left foot in a cast, protecting an injury that remains undisclosed.

Massaquoi is expected to be a key receiver for second-year quarterback Colt McCoy. In 15 games last season, he had 36 catches for 483 yards and two touchdowns. That was slightly less than his production as a rookie in 2009. After being picked by Cleveland in the second round out of Georgia, Massaquoi tied for the team lead with 34 catches, good for 624 yards and three TDs.

The Browns have several players out with a variety of injuries as they prepare for their final exhibition game, Thursday in Chicago against the Bears.

Does WR Mohamed Massaquoi fit in the Browns offense?

The disappointment for the Cleveland Browns this training camp has been wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and the chip fracture in his left foot.

The Browns’ No. 1 receiver in 2010 has missed all of training camp up to this point, spending it on the sidelines in a cast, and then a walking boot. Although he is finally ready to start doing some actual running, there is no guarantee that Browns fans will see him get any action in the preseason.

What will that do for his role in the team’s offense?

This training camp has seen the emergence of second-round pick Greg Little, who has cemented his place in the Browns’ receiving corps. Close behind him is the further development of Josh Cribbs as a wide receiver. He has looked far more confident at the position and looks to be a factor once the season starts.

Massaquoi has the talent to be a good player in the league and has shown flashes of that in his young career. He has also been hampered by poor quarterback play and previous offensive systems that overlooked him.

Mohamed Massaquoi has cast removed

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has had the cast removed from his left leg and could be practicing soon.

Massaquoi was in a walking boot Wednesday. He arrived at training camp in a foot-to-knee cast, and the Browns have been reluctant to discuss his injury. Browns coach Pat Shurmur said earlier this week that the third-year wide receiver has a bone injury. Shurmur said it’s possible Massaquoi, who caught 36 passes last season, could practice next week.

Also, defensive end Jayme Mitchell was kept out of practice with what Shurmur described as a sore knee.

Running back Montario Hardesty again worked on the side with trainers as he continues his comeback from knee surgery. Hardesty has yet to practice with the Browns this summer.

Browns’ Massaquoi has bone injury

BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur revealed starting wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has an injured bone in his left leg.

Massaquoi, who showed up at training camp with a cast on his leg, has not yet practiced and spent the workouts on an exercise bike and watching from the sideline. Shurmur did not divulge any details about Massaquoi’s injury until Monday, when he confirmed it was a bone problem. The Browns have not said how long they expect Massaquoi, who had 36 receptions as a rookie, to be out.

Also, second-year running back Montario Hardesty continued to be limited in his comeback from a knee injury. Shurmur said Hardesty has not suffered any setbacks and the team is intentionally bringing him along slowly.

Linebacker Chris Gocong suffered a stinger during practice.
