CB Joseph rips Bengals, praises Texans

In a Q&A with the Rock Hill (S.C.) Herald, Texans CB Johnathan Joseph, who signed with the team after spending his first five pro seasons with the Bengals, took an opportunity to take shots at his old team.

Joseph said he feels truly wanted in Houston, something that wasn’t the case always in Cincinnati. He said there is no comparison between Texans owner Bob McNair and Bengals owner Mike Brown.

“In Cincy, the team lives off money it earns from football,” Joseph said. “Houston’s owner has other business interests and he controls the money. Numerous things that go on such as the way Houston interacts with my family; we’re treated in a first-class way.”

Joseph continued with the rant against the Bengals, saying they were wholly cheap in comparison to his new club.

“In Cincy, we’re told how much Gatorade we could take home,” he said. “In Houston we get what we request. You get soap and deodorant at your request. You don’t have a roommate on road trips.”

Joseph got the last laugh last season after leaving the Bengals, signing a five-year, $48.75 million contract. Not only did he get the money, but his Texans beat the Bengals in Houston in the postseason.

Johnathan Joseph: Bengals are cheap, Texans are not

Johnathan Joseph left Cincinnati to sign a five-year, $48.75 million contract in Houston last year, so it’s not surprising that Joseph views the Texans as a more generous team than the Bengals. But Joseph says that goes beyond players’ salaries. According to Joseph, Texans owner Bob McNair cares about the players’ families and is willing [...]

Senator who criticized blackout policy applauds NFL’s decision

Late last year, as the Cincinnati Bengals were blacked out on local television for the sixth time of the season, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio called the blackout policy a failure and said the NFL needs to scrap it. So Brown liked what he heard this week. The news that the NFL plans to…

Mike Brown heads the Lakers coaching list

The Los Angeles Lakers have narrowed down the field of candidates they will consider hiring to replace Phil Jackson and have former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown at the top of their list, according to sources with knowledge of the team’s thinking.

Lakers owner Jerry Buss said in an interview Tuesday with Sirius XM Radio that the team was “very close” to filling its coaching vacancy.

Yahoo! Sports subsequently reported that the Lakers had entered into “serious discussions” with Brown, who has been working as an analyst for ESPN since his dismissal by the Cavaliers after last season’s second-round exit.

ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reported Tuesday night that Brown and the Lakers have already exchanged contract figures, with a deal potentially being struck as early as Wednesday. But sources also told Broussard that a deal between the Lakers and the 2008-09 NBA Coach of the Year could collapse if Brown does not get enough security — in terms of years and money — to sufficiently empower him as coach.

The deal on the table would run three years and pay Brown between $4 million and $4.5 million, with a team option for a fourth year, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Well obviously this is a bit shocking at first. On the other hand, I’m not sure that Dan Gilbert ever wanted to get rid of Brown. I think it was a move the Cavs made in hope of keeping LeBron, which backfired as we know.
