Cardinals All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald said after April’s draft that he was excited to play across the field from No. 13 overall draft pick Michael Floyd. But Arizona’s wideout depth chart isn’t shaping up to make that especially likely. Floyd ran with the backups in the Cardinals’ first two preseason games, and he remains behind [...]

Support from enemy: Kyle Williams has a friend in Fitz
After Friday night’s preseason win over the Vikings, Niners wide receiver Kyle Williams expected to receive a supportive message from a somewhat surprising source: the enemy. As it turns out, one of Williams’ big fans is Larry Fitzgerald, the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Cardinals, the 49ers’ NFC West rivals.
Another lost night for Kevin Kolb, and his 0.0 rating
Well, at least Kevin Kolb didn’t get hurt tonight. The Cardinals quarterback watched John Skelton start tonight’s game, but came in for the second quarter, and worked with a group of mostly starting players (other than that Larry Fitzgerald guy). He completed one pass, a 21-yarder to DeMarco Sampson. For the preseason, Kolb’s now 2-of-9 [...]

Packers’ coaches consider Jordy Nelson “an elite receiver”
Packers receiver Jordy Nelson had a career year in 2011, with 1,263 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, but to hear the Packers’ coaches talk, that might become the new normal for Nelson. Green Bay wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett says Nelson isn’t just a good receiver, he’s a great receiver. And he’s a receiver who [...]
Chris Houston uses Calvin Johnson to prepare for big tasks
Not many people covering Calvin Johnson come out of the transaction looking good. But Lions cornerback Chris Houston hopes it helps when it’s time to cover people not Calvin Johnson. “He’s the best wide receiver in the game,” Houston told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “He’s giving you hell day in and day [...]
Shannon Eastin considers replacement assignment a “dream”
Shannon Eastin wanted to play football as a child. Her mom said no, and judo became her compromise. She went onto become a six-time national champion, home-schooling as a sacrifice to her training schedule. Likewise, she’s pursuing another ambition now, which will be realized this week when she becomes the first female official in an…![]()
Skelton takes early edge in quarterback duel
Assuming that quarterback Kevin Kolb’s rib contusion doesn’t derail the competition for the starting job in Arizona before it really begins, John Skelton has taken the lead during his performance on Sunday night in Canton. Subbing for Kolb, who left with an injury after completing one of four passes for four yards and an interception,…![]()
Larry Fitzgerald won’t talk about himself as a Hall of Famer
With Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals in Canton, Ohio, for tonight’s Hall of Fame Game, Arizona’s star receiver is hearing questions about whether he expects to return to Canton with his own bust one day. And those are questions Fitzgerald would prefer not to address. “I’m uncomfortable talking about that,” Fitzgerald said when the Arizona…![]()
Patrick Peterson says he’ll eventually be returning fewer punts
As a rookie in 2011, Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson returned four punts for touchdowns. Eventually, however, he’ll have fewer opportunities to chase Devin Hester’s all-time record of 12 career punt returns, and counting. Peterson told a certain Internet hack with whom you may be familiar on Thursday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show that the [...]
Patrick Peterson’s focus is on becoming a shutdown corner
Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was one of the NFL’s best rookies last season, but that was because of what he did on special teams, not what he did on defense. This season Peterson wants to change that. Peterson, who tied the NFL record for punt return touchdowns in a season with four last year, told [...]

Once leg heals, Josh Gordon will be on “fast track” for Browns
Josh Gordon got more ink than any receiver in the league the first two weeks of July, because he was the only player of note in the Supplemental Draft. But according to early returns out of Cleveland, he may be getting more soon, on what veteran Browns reporter Tony Grossi refers to as the “fast [...]

Kolb throw two picks in Cardinals scrimmage
At a Cardinals Fan Fest last month, quarterback Kevin Kolb heard the boo birds. At the annual Red and White scrimmage on Saturday, a record crowd of roughly 14,500 was more restrained — despite Kolb’s performance. According to the Associated Press, Kolb was “heckled a bit by a few in the crowd” after throwing a…![]()
Report: Mike Wallace looking for Vincent Jackson money, not Larry Fitzgerald
Getty Images
Just a couple of months ago there was a report that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace was looking for Larry Fitzgerald money. Now that doesn’t seem to be the case.
According to Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Wallace is looking to make about as much money as Vincent Jackson received from the Buccaneers. The Steelers have made it clear though, they won’t negotiate unless Wallace signs his tender and reports to camp.
“The message the Steelers sent to Wallace — their holdout receiver who wants a contract like receiver Vincent Jackson’s $55 million contract with Tampa Bay — couldn’t be clearer. Namely, if he wants a new contract, he needs to be in camp. Wallace, who has failed to sign his $2.742 million tender, is the only restricted free agent in the NFL who is not in training camp,” reported Robinson.
Right now it doesn’t look like Wallace will get a new contract any time soon and he could end up being traded.
Wallace wants to be paid like Vincent Jackson, not Fitzgerald
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee published a story in late March stating that Steelers unsigned restricted free agent receiver Mike Wallace was targeting Larry Fitzgerald money in long-term contract talks. The widely held immediate reaction was that Wallace had overvalued himself. Fitzgerald signed an eight-year, $120 million contract last August. His deal included $50 million…![]()
Mike Wallace's Pittsburgh Steelers future in question
Doubts grow that Mike Wallace has a future in Pittsburgh
What does the long-term contract extension for Steelers receiver Antonio Brown mean for the future of the Steelers’ other starting receiver, Mike Wallace? It may mean Wallace and the Steelers have no future together. After Brown signed his deal, Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote that there won’t be a new…![]()
