Ohio State Football: Carlos Hyde Could Steal Starting Role from Jordan Hall

When Jordan Hall went down with a freak foot injury in July, one of the biggest concerns was how his role in the Buckeyes offense would be replaced. Sure, the Buckeyes aren’t exactly hurting for tailbacks, but Carlos Hyde, Rod Smith and incoming freshman Bri’Onte Dunn are all bigger backs, and Hall’s elusiveness can’t easily be replicated by a hulking, 235-pound man-beast.
Carlos Hyde might be that guy, however—and in the process, he just might take some playing time away from Hall even after Hall’s healthy again.
Here’s more from Eleven Warriors:
Carlos Hyde is still your starter at running back and he was another player Meyer singled out, saying he has been one of camp’s biggest surprises. Center Corey Linsley told us that Hyde worked hard on his agility and juke moves over the summer and the hard work is showing up in Hyde’s confidence as he’s now claiming to have the best hands on the team. Linsley backed his claim up, saying Hyde’s hands were good enough to belong to a…

Pop goes Nebraska’s balloon tradition

If you’ve been to a Nebraska home game, you know that one of the coolest traditions among many at Memorial Stadium arrives after the Huskers score their first touchdown. That’s when thousands of red balloons are released into the sky, creating a memorable scene each time.

But that tradition appears to be coming to an abrupt end, at least for a while.

As Jordan Pascale reports in the Lincoln Journal Star, a nationwide helium shortage is causing Nebraska to ground its balloon launch.

Big Ten rankings: No. 23, Ricardo Allen

Our preseason countdown of the top players in the Big Ten rolls on with a stop at the number Michael Jordan made famous.

As always, we remind you that these rankings are based on both past performance and potential for the 2012 season. This next guy does pretty well in both those categories, even if he is overlooked at times because of his physical build:

No. 23: Ricardo Allen, CB, Purdue, Jr., 5-foot-9, 176 pounds

2011 postseason rank: Not ranked

2011 numbers: Registered 79 tackles and three interceptions, including one returned for a 37-yard touchdown.

Ohio State Football: How Jordan Hall’s Injury Will Affect Buckeyes’ Offense

Ohio State’s offense took a little bit of a hit before the Buckeyes even assembled for their fall camp.
Senior running back Jordan Hall suffered a serious cut on his right foot which required surgery, meaning he will likely be out until at least Week 3 against Cal.
Hall was expected to be the top running back on the roster and the key skill player of Urban Meyer’s power spread running game, sharing the zone read responsibilities with quarterback Braxton Miller.
Ohio State’s remaining backs—Carlos Hyde, Rod Smith, Bri’Onte Dunn and Warren Ball—are more power-oriented backs while Hall is the shifty back, using elusive moves to get into space.
That isn’t to say that the other backs on the roster aren’t good, because fans saw last season that Carlos Hyde can be a pretty good football player.
Hyde is comparable in some ways to a faster LeGarrette Blount in the new offense, with great size and deceptive speed.
He isn’t just a bowling ball, as he can run with the best of them as…

Ohio State Football: Why Buckeye Fans Shouldn’t Worry About Jordan Hall’s Injury

So, Jordan Hall suffers an odd foot injury, and now he’ll probably be out through the start of the season. Ten weeks of rehab with the season less than 10 weeks away. Brutal news for Brutus, to be sure, especially since the next three tailbacks in line (Carlos Hyde, Rod Smith, Bri’Onte Dunn in some order close to that) are more or less similar runners.
Of course, the nature of the injury itself—a badly cut foot—is odd enough to arouse suspicion in some fans, and that’s not unreasonable. Like, was there a samurai sword just lying around in his yard?
But based on all we know right now, the conclusion that one should not come to is that Hall was involved in some sort of incident. You know, an incident. The reason not to come to that conclusion is to actually listen to what Urban Meyer had to say about it. Here’s what he told the Canton Repository:
“This is an unfortunate accident to a really fine young man,” Meyer said. “He’s handling things well,…

Buckeyes’ Jordan Hall could be out longer

Jordan Hall isn’t the most decorated running back in the Big Ten. He’s not the sixth most decorated running back in the Big Ten.

But after a spring session where few stars emerged at Ohio State’s skill positions, Hall is undoubtedly one of the league’s more valuable running backs. Without him, a Buckeyes offense that already has a bunch of question marks looks even shakier.

Ohio State will be without its No. 1 back for the start of the season after he underwent foot surgery Friday.

Devin Hester Has a Ridiculous Jordan Collection

Cosby Sweaters – Chicago Bears’ wide receiver/punt return specialist, Devin Hester, recently released photos from his twitter account of his Jordan shoe collection and it is one of the craziest collections I have ever seen. Hester wears No. 23 on the field and it seems that his love affair with the Jordan brand doesn’t stop on the field, dude rocks J’s and a lot of them. Sneakerheads around the world would do pretty much anything to own this collection of rare and highly sought after Jordan’s. [pictures]

Cops take 49 pairs of shoes from Jefferson’s home

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police seized 49 pairs of athletic shoes from LSU starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson’s apartment as they probe his alleged involvement in a bar fight that injured four people last week.

Baton Rouge police Sgt. Don Stone wouldn’t explain why police took the shoes, including the pair Jefferson was wearing when investigators searched his home Wednesday.

Stone said no arrests were expected Thursday.

Wednesday’s search came a day after Jefferson and three teammates — offensive lineman Chris Davenport, linebacker Josh Johns and receiver Jarvis Landry — were interviewed by police for the first time since the fight that occurred in the parking lot of a bar were police say numerous LSU players were gathered.

Stone said charges could range from misdemeanor simple battery to felony second-degree battery if arrests are made.
