Giants defensive tackle: Tim Tebow was very frustrated with the Jets offensive line

AP

According to New York Giants defensive tackle Carlton Powell, Jets quarterback Tim Tebow looked very frustrated with his offensive line for their horrific play in Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Giants.

“Obviously, we were getting after him a little bit,” said Powell, via The Star-Ledger. “And I guess they weren’t holding up their protection so some mistakes were being made so I saw him getting mad so I said a little something to him. He kind of looked at me like he wanted to say something, but he didn’t really say nothing though.”

“The frustration was written all over him,” said Powell. “He was already upset so it didn’t take that much.”

Reports: Olympic sprinter Demps joining Patriots

The Patriots will sign ex-Florida RB-RS Jeff Demps, several media outlets have reported.

Demps, who won a silver medal in this year’s Olympics with the U.S., reportedly will sign his contract Friday night. Demps ran one leg of the 400-meter relay team that was beaten by Jamaica and Usain Bolt.

Several teams were interested in the former Florida star’s services after he declared his interest in playing football again once the Olympic Games were over. The Buccaneers and Jets had been mentioned as teams with strong interest.

Demps, 22, had a standout career with the Gators with 2,470 career rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in four seasons, but he did not attend any pre-draft all-star games or take part in NFL workouts this offseason so he could focus on track.

With that out of the way, Demps joins a talented and deep Patriots roster, but one that could use a dose of speed — likely in the return game. When asked Thursday about his team's performance in recent seasons on kickoff returns, head coach Bill Belichick said, “We didn’t return them very well in any conditions at any time (last season) and still haven’t based on the New Orleans (preseason) game. That’s obviously an area that we can improve in, that we have worked hard in but based on the results still need to do a lot more work on.”

When asked more Thursday about Demps, Belichick played mostly coy — especially about Demps' world-class speed.

“I mean I think it’s pretty well documented,” he said. “I don’t know. Yeah, he’s a running back, he’s returned kicks, he’s fast. I’m sure you can dig that out.”

Demps is expected to sign his contract Friday night and join the Patriots at that point. He has been in the Orlando area, considering NFL offers and making his decision where to sign.

The way we see it

Draft expert Nolan Nawrocki, in his pre-draft analysis, says that Demps possesses “turbo speed” and is a “threat to go the distance” any time he touches the ball. On the negative side, Nawrocki writes that Demps has “very small hands” and “limited run strength” and that he might “lack the mental and physical toughness” to make it. We envision Demps having his biggest impact on kickoffs while being slowly worked into the RB rotation, although a recent injury to Stevan Ridley has thinned the Pats’ depth there.

Brandon Jacobs still tired of hearing about the Jets

AP Photo

San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs is still sick and tired of the Jets even though he’s no longer a member of the New York Giants.  He told Clark Judge of CBSSports.com that he’s tired of hearing about everything going on with them.

“I shouldn’t be speaking of their team, but I’m just so tired of reading and hearing of everything over there … and it’s mid-August,” Jacobs said.”It’s like: Are you kidding me? Camp’s not even over.”

Jacobs says the Jets can never be bigger and better than the Giants.

“They were in the AFC Championship Game twice in a row, but the year after that the Giants win the Super Bowl. That discredits everything as far as the Battle of the City. They can’t ever one-up the Giants — not in my eyesight; not in anyone else’s eyesight. They can never do that. They keep trying, but they’re doing it the wrong way.”

I think everyone in America would love to hear less news about the Jets.

New York radio host blasts Tim Tebow for GQ photos

Radio host Craig Carton from the Boomer and Carton show on 660 WFAN in New York has ripped Jets quarterback Tim Tebow for posing for GQ magazine back when he was at the University of Florida.

“Tim Tebow is posing as Jesus, but not any kind of Jesus. He is posing as ‘Sexy Jesus.’ Now, I’m not a very religious guy, but I do know the tenets of religion and I know what Jesus stood for and I know that many people that believe in that stuff, right, and live their life by that code take that very seriously… But I can tell you that hardcore, conservative, religious people that believe in Jesus and fear God… When you see a guy, who clearly thinks he is Jesus — he is posing as Jesus, legs crossed, arms out, like he’s on the freaking cross, and he’s got tight junk pants on showing off his big junk with no shirt on — and he’s posing as Sexy Jesus, he is a fraud,” said Carton.

I’m not sure I agree with Carton, but I do understand how Tebow looks like a hypocrite for posing with his shirt off and then claiming that he’s living a pure life.

At the end of the day, people love ripping Tebow because of his religious views.

Mark Sanchez’s teammates expect him to breakout this season

AP Photo

The teammates of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez believe he’s ready for a big season in 2012.

Linebacker Bart Scott says Sanchez has handled himself differently this season.

“I think everybody has seen a difference in how he walks, how he handles it if he throws a bad ball, how he carries himself,” Scott said,  per The Associated Press via NFL.com. “Mark’s always been a guy that you can see his emotions and how he’s feeling about himself by his facial expressions. I think now he carries himself upright and he sticks that chest out like a peacock.

“I think that really shows confidence. But it also helps and inspires his players because they respond because he’s their leader, and they’re are going to go as he goes.”

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis says whether the Jets win or lose this season, everything will fall on Sanchez’s shoulders.

“The quarterback needs to take us there, and we’re counting on Mark to do that,” Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said. “Everybody has to do their job, but if we lose, it falls on Mark. If we win, it falls on Mark. The biggest thing is, we’re very confident in Mark and we know he can lead us. He’s done it in the past, and we’re counting on him.”

Rex Ryan believes the Jets have a top five defense

AP Photo

According to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger, Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes his defense will be ranked in the top five this season.

“Am I confident in our defense?” Ryan said today, per Vrentas. “Absolutely. Granted, I said top five. That’s a given. I don’t care who’s out there. (Defensive coordinator) Mike Pettine at free safety. That’s a stretch. DT (secondary coach Dennis Thurman), maybe. That’s how confident we are. We have a great system, we have a great group of players and we have a great group of coaches.”

“Will we have the best defense in the league? I don’t know,” he said. “There are a lot of good defenses out there. I certainly think putting out that kind of defense is a goal of ours every year. We’ll see. I feel good. A lot of things have to happen. … We know that we’ve had a history here of wanting to have the best defense in the league, even though it has been only three years. That’s what we’re shooting for.”

It looks like to me that the Jets defense has  been only getting older and worse over the past three seasons and I don’t expect anything less.

Santonio Holmes may miss the rest of the preseason

AP Photo

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said that wide receiver Santonio Holmes might miss the rest of the preseason due to the rib injury he suffered about a week ago during practice.

“Santonio Holmes may miss the entire preseason. Rex Ryan said on Wednesday that the Jets’ No. 1 wide receiver may not be on the field again up the regular-season opener against the Bills on Sept. 9,” reported Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News.

“Certainly it’s possible,” Ryan said. “But don’t think that will be the case.”

“Obviously, you’d like to have your guys out there on the field…. ” Ryan said. “But you got make sure you’re not putting them out there when they could be at further risk or they’re not ready to come back.”

All the Jets need to do is put Tebow at receiver and they’ll be fine.

No MetLife coverup

CORTLAND — There won’t be any curtain controversy Saturday night at MetLife Stadium. The Jets, hosts for the game, will not cover the Giants’ Super Bowl logos that are outside their locker room with curtains for the preseason game between the teams. The Jets, who are hosting, normally cover the…

Jets keeping their Tim Tebow wildcat package under wraps

AP Photo

The New York Jets are keeping their special Tim Tebow wildcat package under such secrecy that running back Joe McKnight denies knowing anything about it.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” McKnight said,  per the New York Daily News. “Wildcat? I don’t know nothing about the Wildcat.”

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez deferred any wildcat questions to offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.

“You have to talk to Coach Sparano,” Sanchez said. “There’s a lot going on. It’s some pretty intense stuff.”

“Coach Sparano is someone that’s extremely creative, extremely passionate … he’s going to do whatever it takes to win. It’s not the same old, same old with him. He’s continually talking about new things (and) looking at new things.”

Not sure what the Jets are keeping a secret, the wildcat is a pretty basic package.  Sounds like a bunch hype to me.
