Vick feels fine, cartilage being checked today

After taking a hit to the midsection from Kyle Love that Philly fans surely hated (see what I did there?), Eagles quarterback Mike Vick is, surprisingly, feeling fine. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Vick has no concerns about his ability to suit up and play on Week One against the Browns.  He…

Tuesday morning one-liners

Shawne Merriman’s departure from the Bills opens a door for Kyle Moore and Jarron Gilbert. The Dolphins cut FB Ryan Mahaffey after he slipped behind Jorvorskie Lane on the depth chart. Looking at Patriots RB Shane Vereen’s night as the team’s starting tailback. P T.J. Conley doesn’t expect the Jets to bring in competition for…

Titans owner Bud Adams on board with Locker decision

There was always a sense of inevitability about Jake Locker winning the Titans quarterback job, and here’s a good reason why — Bud Adams said so. The Titans owner said Monday, shortly after the news came out that coaches had decided to play Locker instead of Matt Hasselbeck, that he was on board with the [...]

What if the Jets won’t be using the Wildcat at all?

The Jets have made it widely known that they’ll be using the Wildcat this year.  But what if they actually won’t be using it at all? They’ve hired former Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, who four years ago bedeviled the Patriots with the surprise unveiling of the NFL’s version of the alternative attack, which works best [...]

Sunday morning one-liners

S Delano Howell is making a bid for more playing time with the Bills. Dolphins coach Joe Philbin deemed T Jonathan Martin’s play not “God awful” against the Panthers. Five Olympic medalists will be honored at the Patriots’ game on Monday night. RB Shonn Greene is frustrated with the Jets offense continually shooting itself in…

Russell Wilson looks good again for the Seahawks

Two first half interceptions for the Broncos quarterback was the lead story coming out of Saturday night’s Broncos-Seahawks affair. Peyton Manning (and the job done by the Seahawks defense against him) wasn’t the only story, though. The Seahawks quarterbacks continued their competition and, for the second straight game, Russell Wilson put forth a strong performance.…

Peyton plays full half, throws two picks

Slowly but surely, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is getting himself ready for the games that count. Even though it’s still not entirely sure how he’ll look when Week One rolls around. Playing an entire half on Saturday night in Denver against the Seahawks, Manning completed 15 of 22 passes for 177 yards.  But he threw [...]

T.O. gets the start, drops long touchdown pass

Surprisingly, receiver Terrell Owens started for the Seahawks in their Saturday night preseason game in Denver. Owens rewarded coach Pete Carroll for the show of faith by dropping what would have been a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Flynn. Running a deep post pattern on a play-action fake, Owens was open for an over-the-shoulder [...]

Peyton gets picked off in second drive of Denver debut

There’s a full house at Mile High tonight.  (As we pointed out on Twitter, that Jacob Tamme can really put asses in the seats.) So far, the man they all came to see hasn’t given them much to look at. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has completed two of three passes for 22 yards in two [...]

Peyton Manning may get one series in the second quarter Saturday

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning might be tired of talking about getting hit, but his bosses are in no hurry to hasten the process. According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, Manning will only play the first quarter and “possibly” one series in the second when the Broncos play the Seahawks Saturday. Manning only played [...]

Travis Henry wants to be like Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress

He’s been reinstated, and announced that he wants to come back to the NFL. But apparently, Travis Henry’s phone isn’t ringing. The former Bills, Titans and Broncos running back said he’s still holding out hope, and looking to the examples of Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress as evidence he could do the unlikely. “In my [...]

NFL won’t suspend Perrish Cox

A year ago at this time, 49ers cornerback Perrish Cox was out of football and defending himself against charges of raping a woman who had passed out at his apartment. The most incriminating evidence?  Cox told police that he didn’t have sex with the woman, and the DNA of the fetus that later was discovered…

John Elway Says Broncos QB Manning Throws the Ball Better Than Ever

Broncos Executive VP of football operations John Elway said Peyton Manning is throwing the ball as well as ever and thinks the four-time MVP’s release has gotten even quicker, Jim Corbett of USA Today reports.

“He’s throwing the post route and everything well,” Elway said. “I went back and looked at film from 2010 and 2009 to get a comparison of Peyton, and he looks to me to be the same guy throwing now that he was then.

“The ball is coming out quicker all the time the more and more time he gets with the offense and getting to know all his receivers and tight ends. … That’s always been his style. He’s never been the Nolan Ryan of quarterbacks anyway. He’s always throwns the ball with great anticipation and touch.”

Peyton Manning looking forward to end of questions about getting hit

There are two big questions swirling around Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning right now. The first has to do with the quality of his arm. John Elway gave his opinion on that, saying that he felt Manning’s arm is as good as it was with the Colts. Manning was asked about Elway’s assessment during a session…
