The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard/forward C.J. Miles to a contract, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
“C.J. brings solid NBA experience to the team, yet is still just entering his prime at 25,” said General Manager Chris Grant. “His ability to play multiple positions adds depth and flexibility to our [...]
C.J. Miles likely joining the Cavs
Unrestricted free agent small forward C.J. Miles has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a league source told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday.
Miles is expected to sign a two-year deal with Cleveland and compete for a starting spot during the 2012-13 season.
Miles, 25, drew interest from several teams during free agency, including the [...]

Alonzo Gee hopes to stay with Cavs
The free-agent forward, in town for one of the Cavs’ basketball camps put on by the National Basketball Academy, smiled. Although he’s not currently under contract with the team, he made it clear where he’d like to be.
“I want to be in Cleveland,” he said. “This is where I want to be. I love the [...]
Cavs rookie Dion Waiters out of shape at summer league
As you read this, remember that I didn’t favor the Cavs selecting Dion Waiters at No. 4.
But I also know it’s premature to say this was a lousy pick because Waiters played poorly in three summer-league games, averaging 12.3 points but shooting only 30 percent from the field.
The big problem was Waiters showed up at [...]
Ryan Hollins drawing interest from Hornets
The New Orleans Hornets have expressed interest in unrestricted free agent center Ryan Hollins, a 7-footer who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics last season, sources confirmed Tuesday.
The Hornets do not have a true center on their roster although they acquired 14-year veteran Brad Miller in a trade last week from the Minnesota [...]
Jonny Flynn works out for Cavaliers
Free-agent point guard Jonny Flynn worked out with for the Cavaliers on Monday, and there remains strong interest on both sides. Flynn has battled hip injuries in the past, but is healthy now and making a tour of NBA camps.

Cavs’ Anderson Varejao remains out
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott says center Anderson Varejao’s broken right wrist will not be re-examined by doctors until next week.
Varejao has been out since Feb. 10, when he broke his wrist during a game against Milwaukee.
The Cavs expected Varejao to miss from 4 to 6 weeks and were initially optimistic he would return sooner.
One of the NBA’s top rebounders, Varejao continues to wear a wrap on his wrist. He has not yet resumed basketball activities and has been limited to working on his stamina.
The Cavs have made a recent playoff push without the 29-year-old Varejao. Cleveland has won three straight for the first time this season and trails New York by one game for the final spot in the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland hosts Toronto on Tuesday.

Cavs center Varejao breaks right wrist
CLEVELAND (AP)—For the second time this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been hit with an injury to a key player.
Center Anderson Varejao, who is having the best season of his eight-year career, will be out indefinitely with a broken right wrist.
Rookie point guard Kyrie Irving missed his third straight game Saturday night against Philadelphia with a concussion. While it’s hoped Irving will return in the near future, possibly as early as next week, it’s unclear how long Varejao will be sidelined.
The latest injury will be a major blow to the Cavaliers.
Not only is Varejao averaging 10.8 points with 11.5 rebounds, his hustling style of play both inspires his teammates and aggravates opponents as well.
“It’s going to be hard to make up for everything that Andy does,” Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said. “He gives us so much on both ends of floor. There’s not a whole lot of guys in the league that play with the energy and intensity Andy plays with. That’s what makes him special.”
Varejao, who leads the league in offensive rebounds per game, was injured in the third quarter of Friday night’s 113-112 overtime loss to Milwaukee and did not return.
The injury occurred while he grabbed a rebound and was slapped on the wrist by a defender.
The results of an MRI performed Saturday revealed a non-displaced fracture of the wrist. Scott said Varejao will be evaluated again Sunday.
A timeline for his return will be established next week after further testing.
Semih Erden started at center Saturday. Scott said Ryan Hollins and Samardo Samuels will also get minutes there. Rookie power forward Tristan Thompson may be another option.
Scott said Irving rode the stationary bike Saturday, but it’s uncertain when he will be cleared to take part in practice drills.
The Cavaliers are following the NBA’s new guidelines on treating head injuries with Irving, who was injured in Tuesday’s game against Miami. He was knocked down in the foul lane while driving to the basket and his head struck Heat guard Dwyane Wade’s knee.
Irving complained of a headache on Wednesday and was diagnosed with the concussion shortly before Cleveland hosted the Los Angeles Clippers that night.
Irving, the No. 1 pick in the draft, is averaging 18.1 points and 5.1 assists in 23 games.
Kyrie Irving recovering from concussion
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers rookie guard Kyrie Irving is being evaluated at the Cleveland Clinic as he recovers from a concussion.
Irving missed his first game of the season Wednesday night with the concussion. He was kept out after the team diagnosed him with the head injury, which he sustained Tuesday night in Miami when he was accidentally kneed in the head by the Heat’s Dwyane Wade. Irving complained of a headache while warming up before Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Cavs coach Byron Scott said.
Irving remained in the locker room as his teammates won without him. Ramon Sessions started for Irving and scored a season-high 24 points with 13 assists.
There is no timetable for Irving’s return.
The Cavaliers host Milwaukee on Friday and Philadelphia on Saturday.
Kyrie Irving coming up big for Cavaliers
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Cavaliers rookie guard Kyrie Irving won’t let the first big moment of his NBA career go to his head.
Irving made a layup with 2.6 seconds left on Sunday in Boston as the Cavaliers scored the game’s final 12 points in an 88-87 win. With his father, Drederick, watching from a courtside seat, Irving spun in the lane beneath all those dangling Celtics championship banners and dropped in his game-winner to cap a 23-point performance.
After practice Monday, Irving said he was the “same old Kyrie” and was looking forward to the Cavaliers’ game with Boston on Tuesday.
The Cavs are hoping there will be many more memorable moments for the 19-year-old Irving, the No. 1 overall pick who has shown a fearlessness and willingness to take the game’s final shot.
Kyrie Irving drops in 25 vs Charlotte
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving dropped in 25 points to go along with 7 assists to lead the Cavs over the Charlotte Bobcats 1/16/2012.
This was Irving’s fourth consecutive 20-point outing. The top overall pick from last year’s draft is playing very well, and has already established himself as the Cavaliers’ top scoring option.

Cavaliers target Anthony Parker
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant, happy that there soon will be an NBA season, admits he has a long task list that needs to be filled.
At the top of it is veteran guard Anthony Parker. Even at age 36, Parker’s presence on a team loaded with young players would go a long way toward the Cavaliers’ building process.
Grant has spoken with Parker’s agent, which is more than he has been able to do with any player. Until the collective bargaining agreement is approved, players are not permitted to have contact with front office personnel.
Adding other players through trade or free agency is not out of the question, though Grant said bringing in an ordinary player on a rich contract would not mesh with team plans.
Sacramento Kings acquire J.J. Hickson from Cavaliers for Omri Casspi
Clearing out a logjam at power forward, Cleveland traded the enigmatic Hickson to the Sacramento Kings for forward Omri Casspi and a future first-round pick. Hickson spent three mostly productive seasons in Cleveland, but his days were numbered when the club drafted Texas forward Tristan Thompson with the No. 4 overall pick last week. Hickson was part of the Cavs’ core when they won more than 60 regular-season games in consecutive seasons and pushed deep into the playoffs.

Kyrie Irving is saying his foot is completely healed from an injury that kept him out most of the season this year with Duke.
Irving has long been considered the top pick, though the Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t said they will choose him with their No. 1 selection.
Irving says if Cleveland is worried about it they shouldn’t be. Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant told ESPN on Wednesday that the team has heavily vetted Irving’s injury and are “comfortable” with its status.

Cleveland Cavaliers have decided on Kyrie Irving?
photo © 2009 Chamber of Fear | more info (via: Wylio)
Sources are saying that the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to take Duke PG Kyrie Irving with the No.1 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. The Cavaliers would like to somehow come away with Kyrie Irving and Arizona’s Derrick Williams but the chances of that are slim to none.
It looks like the Cavs will take Irving with the No.1 and then look at trading the No.4 pick that the Cavs also own.
If I were the Cavs I would take Derrick Williams No.1 and then see what PG is available at No.4. I just don’t see that Kyrie Irving is that much better than Kentucky’s Brandon Knight.

Cavs still discussing options

The consensus among NBA teams is that Cleveland will select Duke freshman guard Kyrie Irving with the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s draft.
But the Cavaliers aren’t acting as if they’ve made a decision, and according to multiple sources, they are actively discussing a number of possibilities. They likely will go with Irving, but there are scenarios in which they might not.
The Cavaliers haven’t told Irving that he is the No. 1 pick, and Arizona’s Derrick Williams is a legitimate contender for the top spot.
Cleveland, which also holds the No. 4 overall pick, will bring in Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight for a visit early this week. Former Kentucky student Enes Kanter of Turkey, who was ruled by the NCAA to be permanently ineligible with the school, will return for a second visit.
Should the Cavaliers decide to pick Williams, a forward, and Kanter, a center, it would put pressure on the team to find another point guard, possibly in this draft, even with Baron Davis still under contract.

DeShawn Stevenson: Heat ‘classless’
photo © 2007 Steve Johnson | more info (via: Wylio)
DeShawn Stevenson admitted that beating self-proclaimed king LeBron James made the Dallas Mavericks’ championship even sweeter.
“It makes me feel good, man, to beat him, to beat that Miami team,” Stevenson told ESPNDallas.com in an AmericanAirlines Arena hallway after the Mavs clinched the title with Sunday’s Game 6 win. “The way they act, the way they treated Dirk [Nowitzki], all the things that they said were very classless. To win on the court the way we did it, it was wonderful.”
The Mavericks thought James and Dwyane Wade disrespected Nowitzki, who was named Finals MVP, by mocking his cough in front of television cameras after the Game 5 shootaround. Nowitzki, who played Game 4 with a sinus infection that caused a nasty cough and a 101-degree fever, called the incident “a little childish, a little arrogant.”
Stevenson’s hostile history with James goes back much further than these Finals. Stevenson’s Washington Wizards were eliminated by James’ Cleveland Cavaliers three consecutive postseasons.

Mike Brown heads the Lakers coaching list
The Los Angeles Lakers have narrowed down the field of candidates they will consider hiring to replace Phil Jackson and have former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown at the top of their list, according to sources with knowledge of the team’s thinking.
Lakers owner Jerry Buss said in an interview Tuesday with Sirius XM Radio that the team was “very close” to filling its coaching vacancy.
Yahoo! Sports subsequently reported that the Lakers had entered into “serious discussions” with Brown, who has been working as an analyst for ESPN since his dismissal by the Cavaliers after last season’s second-round exit.
ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reported Tuesday night that Brown and the Lakers have already exchanged contract figures, with a deal potentially being struck as early as Wednesday. But sources also told Broussard that a deal between the Lakers and the 2008-09 NBA Coach of the Year could collapse if Brown does not get enough security — in terms of years and money — to sufficiently empower him as coach.
The deal on the table would run three years and pay Brown between $4 million and $4.5 million, with a team option for a fourth year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Well obviously this is a bit shocking at first. On the other hand, I’m not sure that Dan Gilbert ever wanted to get rid of Brown. I think it was a move the Cavs made in hope of keeping LeBron, which backfired as we know.
