Browns’ Josh Gordon reportedly looking brilliant in practice

AP

According to Steve Doerschuk of the CantonRep.com, rookie wide receiver Josh Gordon has looked great over the past couple of practices.

“After some rough spots in training camp, Gordon looked brilliant — at least in the context of Browns wide receivers — for a second straight practice,” wrote Doerschuk.

It would be a pleasant surprise if Gordon can come out of no where this season and be a legitimate number one target for Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden.

Trent Richardson could be back at practice “soon”

AP

With Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehab from arthroscopic knee surgery, head coach Pat Shurmur believes he could be back at practice soon.

“He’s getting better every day so his progress has been outstanding,” Shurmur said, per ProFootballTalk.com.  “I think he’s 10 days out now, so he’s about where we thought he’d be at this point, probably a little bit ahead of that.  He’ll be out here soon.”

Let’s just hope that when Richardson gets back on the field, everything holds up well.

Colt McCoy says he doesn’t want to be anywhere but Cleveland

AP

Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he doesn’t want to leave Cleveland.

“If it comes to that, if they decide to do something, [I'll deal with it] at that point,” McCoy said. “But no one has said anything to me yet, and there’s no place I’d rather be than here. I’m invested in this city and this team, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

McCoy remains loyal to the Browns even though he’s not going to be their starting quarterback this season.

“You hear all of the rumors,” McCoy said. “I keep a real tight mind-set that my job is quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. And I’m going to go out here and compete and give my best to this city and this organization, because this is where I was drafted, and I don’t want to be anywhere else.”

Browns’ Mohamed Massaquoi says HC Pat Shurmur is old and doesn’t understand Twitter

AP Photo

Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi left last week’s preseason game after reportedly suffering a concussion.  He later went on Twitter and claimed that he was fine and didn’t suffer a concussion.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur wasn’t very happy that he went on Twitter and discussed his injury. Massaquoi explained on Tuesday that Shurmur is too old to understand Twitter.

“Tweeting is a new-age thing,” Massaquoi. “Pat’s a little older, so he doesn’t really understand it. But we’re gonna keep certain things in house as far as Twitter goes. We’re not gonna give any game plans or anything like that or give too many updates which may hinder something that we’re trying to do.

“But Twitter’s fun. Hopefully. I can get Pat to get [an account].”

You have to love it when a player doesn’t show any respect for his coach by calling him old, wow.

NFL reportedly planning on using replacement officials during the regular season

AP Photos

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the NFL is now planning on using replacement officials during the regular season.

“League executives said Monday they now foresee starting the 2012 regular season with replacement officials,” reported Mortensen.

With the way these officials have been calling games during the preseason, the NFL would be stupid to not strike a deal with the regular officials.

Report: Joe Haden used Adderal as a “pick me up” in Las Vegas

AP Photo

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, a source has told him that Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden used Adderal as a “pick me up” during an offseason visit.

“A league source tells PFT that the locker-room scuttlebutt in Cleveland is that cornerback Joe Haden tested positive for Adderall after taking the ADD medication as a “pick-me-up” during an offseason visit to Las Vegas,” reported Florio.

This means that Haden wasn’t using the Adderal for any medical reason, which means his recent positive PED test wasn’t an accident.

Jason La Canfora of CBSSPorts.com is still hearing that former Eagles president Joe Banner will end up taking over for Mike Holmgren as the president of the Cleveland Browns.

Report: Trent Richardson will undergo another knee scope, injury could linger

AP Photo

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson will undergo another knee scope in order to remove a “hang nail particle.”

The bad news is that Dr. Michael Kaplan of ESPN believes Richardson’s injury could linger throughout the season.

Kaplan explained that the reason for the possible knee scope on Richardson’s knee would be “in an effort to debride or trim away a small chrondral flap.  Which means the articular surface has a small area that’s been pushed up.  It’s irritating his knee and it’s swollen.  Now the operation itself is pretty minor.  The problem is rather that the area is a small tramatic arthritis and it may bother some more than just a few weeks.  And my hunch is, it’s going to be three to four weeks minimum until this fully quiets.  And it may even be a problem for him later in the season.  So while it’s a minor operation, I do think it’s going to take more than just a few weeks, which has been reported.”

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson is expected to be ready for week one of the regular season even though he’s scheduled to undergo another knee scope.

This is certainly great news for the Browns, but the bigger question is how will these knee scopes affect the longevity of Richardson’s career.  All of these procedures can’t be good for his knee’s.

According to Will Burge of ESPNCleveland.com, multiple sources have told him that Browns cornerback Joe Haden has failed a drug test, which could lead to a four game suspension from the NFL.

“Multiple sources tell ESPN Cleveland that the NFL is currently reviewing a failed drug test by Browns cornerback Joe Haden that could result in a four-game suspension.

“One source said that Haden tested positive for the prescription drug Adderall during a routine, off-season test administered in accordance with the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances,” wrote Burge.

There’s a chance that Richardson could miss this week’s preseason opener.

“It’s not believed to be serious, but coach Pat Shurmur said he could miss Friday’s preseason opener in Detroit,” wrote Cabot.

NFL Referee’s Association has a list of offciating errors from the HoF game

The NFL Referee’s Association was paying close attention to Sunday night’s Hall of Fame game between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints.  They wrote up a report to keep track of the officiating errors made during the game.

“Professional NFL officials are graded after every game,” NFLRA counsel Michael Arnold said in a release, per ProFootballTalk.com.  ”Several of the NFL Referee Association’s officials who grade for Division-I college conferences did a review of the Hall of Fame Game working from a recording of the television feed.  Normally, there would be an opportunity to also view the ‘Coaches’ Tape, which provides two views of every play, but multiple costly errors were still evident.  Numerous errors in field mechanics, game administration and even the coin toss negatively impacted the quality of the game.”

The thing that really stuck out to me about Sunday night’s game is that there wasn’t one holding call made for the entire game.  I wonder if they noticed the players that were mocking the bad officiating as the game went on.

Browns announce Brandon Weeden as their starter heading into the season

AP Photo

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Browns have announced that rookie Brandon Weeden will be their starting quarterback heading into the season.

Browns head coach pat Shurmur has indicated that the number two job behind Weeden is up for grabs between both Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace.

Weeden being named the starter is not a surprise at all.  Carry on now.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Browns linebacker Chris Gocong ruptured his Achilles and is done for the season.  He’ll likely undergo surgery on Monday.

Achilles injuries are some of the most difficult injuries to come back from.  The 28 year-old Gocong will have a tough road ahead.  The good thing is that it happened early in training camp.
