Charles Barkley criticizes Michael Jordan as an owner

Michael Jordan became a minority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006. Since that time, the team has finished with an above-.500 record once and reached the playoffs in only that season. They were swept in the first round. Jordan became the the Bobcats’ majority owner a little over a year ago, and Charlotte fans are still hoping he can build a contender. As M.J.’s friend Charles Barkley pointed out on Thursday, His Airness has not done a good job thus far.

“I think the biggest problem has been I don’t know if he has hired enough people around him who he will listen to,” Barkley said Thursday on ESPN 1000′s Waddle & Silvy Show. “One thing about being famous is the people around you, you pay all their bills so they very rarely disagree with you because they want you to pick up the check. They want to fly around on your private jet so they never disagree with you. I don’t think Michael has hired enough people around him who will disagree.

Bobcats land shooting guard Reggie Williams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)
The Charlotte Bobcats have signed shooting guard Reggie Williams to a two-year contract, the team confirmed on Thursday.

Williams, entering his third NBA season, is expected to join the Bobcats today for workouts.

Williams had been a restricted free agent but the Golden State Warriors rescinded his rights in their efforts to sign a center.

Bobcats coach Paul Silas said last week his team’s biggest need was to find a shooting guard and Williams fills that role.

He played in 80 games last season for the Warriors and averaged 9.2 points. As a rookie two years ago, he averaged 15.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 24 games. Williams didn’t garner much attention in college playing at Virginia Military, but has been a pleasant surprise.

Timberwolves naming coach this week?

The last time the Minnesota Timberwolves looked for a coach, Kurt Rambis, Mark Jackson, and Elston Turner all had to come in for second interviews. There’s been no “indication there will be a second round of interviews” this time around, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Some of the current candidates are “expecting an answer this week,” the paper reports.

The paper suggests that the battle to be the coach of the NBA’s worst team is down to 47-year-old New Jersey Nets assistant coach Sam Mitchell, who won Coach of the Year during his 2004-2008 run with the Toronto Raptors; 71-year-old Don Nelson, who holds the NBA record for most victories by a head coach with 1,335; and 67-year-old Bernie Bickerstaff, who is an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers but has been the head coach of the Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets, Washington Bullets/Wizards, and Charlotte Bobcats.
