Cowboys TE Jason Witten will not need spleen surgery
The Cowboys are stating that Pro Bowl TE Jason Witten will not need spleen surgery as previously feared. According to reports, the bleeding in his spleen has subsided and the injury will take care of itself over time. Had things not taken this course, Witten most likely would have had to have undergone season-ending surgery to take care of the injury suffered against the Raiders. ESPN is stating that Witten is due back in time for the Cowboys’ Sept. 5 regular-season opener against the New York Giants, but that seems a bit like wishful thinking based on the severity of the injury.
